So right off the bat I had to buy an adapter for $110-$120. My other complaint is that ATI makes the minimum effort to provide help in setting up either Eyefinity or Hydrovision. Luckily, Eyefinity can be set up with a bit of trial and error. However switching between profiles is still giving me fits. Forget about Hydrovision...it is beyond me to utilize it effctively. Aside from those features that could be easily addressed and solved by ATI the card is superb. Installs easily (it is a long card)and software updates are timely. The card itself is worth 5 stars but software support and misleading specs force me to downgrade to 4. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Great Card but Fan Control Issues This review is from: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 2 GB DDR5 HEXAD MINI DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 100290SR (Personal Computers) I was playing Crysis at 50FPS and the system would crap out. After playing with the Catalyst control Center I realized the problem. The Fan wasn't ramping up to deal with the heat. The fan always stays at 20% regardless of what is going on. I solved the problem very easily. I set up profiles to run the card with different fan settings and shortcut keys to set the profile. example ctrl+Shift+A is default. ctrl+shift+z takes it to 30% overclocked to 900 and 1300(Maximum OC allowed). Fan running at 20% is silent but 30% sounds like a gaming rig. Higher than 30% is noticeably loud. By the way the fan exhausts air so your system is kept cooler. On the other hand the card is very big and lies right on top of my Northbridge. I believe that my Northbridge is running around 5" hotter due to placement of the card. Sorry I haven't played with the Eyefinity yet, am just using 1 monitor. I just wanted the upgrade option. I'm very pleased with the card as it's running Metro 2033 at 50FPS. Many people forget that a system is only as fast as the slowest component. My components are all 7.6 and above in the Windows Experience Index. I strongly suggest that you combine an SSD Drive with this card because my FPS have been higher on my configuration than on the reviews of equivalent hardware and the only difference is that I'm using an G.Skill SSD Drive with Sandforce controller. |
