10.1-Inch CrystalBrite Screen

The 10.1-inch screen has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600) and support for up a 262K color depth. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses shared video memory with the main memory. Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments.

Power-Sipping Processor

The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

Great battery life and portability
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AOD250-1924 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I bought this computer almost 6 weeks ago and am thrilled with it for all the standard reasons-- lightweight, portable, bright screen, etc. The computer starts up very quickly from hibernation. As a bonus, the computer fits easily in my (large) purse. I plan to buy the memory upgrade-- when I have several Firefox windows open (6-8 with 3-4 tabs in each) the computer slows down. Open Office will run, but sluggishly.

However, I don't quite understand why this computer (Aspire One AOD-250-1924) has so few reviews, but a similar model (Aspire One AOD-250-1990) has so many. The 1924 computer has Bluetooth and a slightly longer battery life than the AOD-250-1990 model. The 1990 model has a 6-cell 4800 mAh (milliAmp per hour) battery, and this computer (the 1924 model) has a 6-cell 5200 mAh battery... and thus slightly longer battery life. Today (August 18th) the 1924 is ~$20 more expensive than the 1990, but when I bought my 1924 the 1990 was ~$35 more than the 1990. Weird.

In summary, if you are 'upgrading' from an older laptop (a 2005 Dell, in my case), you won't sacrifice much by switching to this computer, and you'll benefit from great portability. This netbook is a great solution for me while I wait for Windows 7 or the means to buy a Mac.

A great backup

This review is from: Acer Aspire One AOD250-1924 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I bought one of these last winter for my wife before going to travel Europe, and we liked it so much I bought another one this summer as a backup for my (too big) laptop.
The battery life we get out of it is enough to last the whole 10 hour flight from Caracas to Paris. It is not as powerful as a state of the art laptop such as the one I spend my life on, but all in all it has all what we need, provided that you add an external optic drive (which we did).
It is more than enough for on-the-road communication, accounting and photo processing and storage and though the video card and the cranking power will not allow you to play fancy flight simulators they are well suited to travel needs.
I had to use if occasionally for a quick fix in code and I feared it would be a drag to edit source files on such a samll screen or that it would take ages to compile but no: the screen is really good and, though not as wide as I would need on a daily basis, enough to perform the tasks at hand. The building of the project was noticeably slower than with my work horse but in no way outrageous.
When on the road with it I don't need to unplug all my lab from the main laptop every night: I can Skype my wife from the hotel and read the news at breakfast - very convenient.
All in all a great backup/on-the-road PC.

Useful for travel
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AOD250-1924 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I bought this netbook with one purpose in mind, to have something lightweight with a long battery life for when I'm on the road. It fulfills those functions very well. I didn't give it a fifth star for two reasons. First, it is difficult to load software if you have CDs since there is no CD-ROM drive. Second, the keyboard feels a little cheap. I am hoping this doesn't mean problems down the line. So far, so good.

Acwe a real piece of crap!
It is probably good that this netbook is no longer available because it is a real piece of crap. Mine has been back to Acer and it is still not right.

Acer netbook
The conversion of this netbook from WinXP to dual boot Win/Ubuntu-9.10 took less than an hour; the easiest dual-boot system I've ever done.

This thing is fantastic!
I bought this as a Black Friday special on a different site. But I use Amazon a lot so I thought I'd review it here as well. First thing, get a 2GB chip for this.

lite and nice
computer works great for regular software and using the internet. not having a cd drive is a small issue for installing software, but not an issue after that.

The Acer Aspire One; it's lightweight. That's is; nothing more.
Such a cute little netbook. The only feature it has going for it is that it's extremely lightweight. But if you actually need to DO anything - like surf the web?
