Buy it.
This review is from: HIS Radeon HD 6970 2GB (256bit) GDDR5 Eyefinity 2x Mini-DisplayPort HDMI 2x DVI (HDCP) PCI Express X16 2.1 Video Card Retail (RoHS) H697F2G2M (Personal Computers)
It's, as of this writing, AMD's flagship single GPU card. They don't make a faster one than this. Brought my windows assessment score for graphics/gaming up to 7.9 (the max) and games run great. It's a little bigger than my 5850 but it still fit in my case just fine. Having the power cables attach to the side of the card helps too.

I bought an HIS card because my last one, the 5850, performed very well and overclocked like a beast. I don't know if that will be the case for this one but HIS is a brand I trust. That, with AMD, forget about it. It's an easy decision. Buy this card. Far more performance per dollar than anything nvidia is making right now.

What happened to Customer Service?

I got this card about a month ago now and after putting it in my system I was fairly impressed with its performance on Crysis. After trying the new card on several games including Left 4 Dead, Garry's Mod, Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed, Rainbow six Vegas 2 and others, I began having problems. After starting the games it would always be able to get past the initial loading screen but after trying to begin playing it will always freeze the video while the audio still plays. After tinkering with the settings in AMD Catalyst, I continued trying to make the games work. I attempted every combination of settings in Catalyst and tried running the games in default settings and restored Catalyst to default settings as well. At this point I figured it had to be a problem with something else in my system.
Here's what I had at the time just for reference:

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
Gigabyte ATX Motherboard GA-890GPA
4GB 1333MHz DDR3
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650-Watt TX

I've been working with HIS customer support for the past month trying the card in other systems and general trouble shooting. Finally customer support suggested that it could be my power supply not providing enough power to the card. I figured that could be the problem so I asked the support if I should go ahead and get more powerful power supply. The said that it should fix my problem. As much as I didn't want to get a new one seeing as I had already spend $90 on the one I've currently, I decided I should spend the money for one that should work.
I checked through AMD's list of certified power supplies and found the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W. I figured it would definitely be good enough so I went ahead and got it for around $200. Got the power supply two days later and got all excited about having my card work, and who would have guess, it didn't work. I informed the support technician and he said I should send it back for replacement.

Now, normally it's not a problem its not their fault that occasionally products are defective. I worked at a video game store, sometimes things just don't work. The biggest problem I'm having is the customer support when I'm trying to return the card. First of all I'm asked to fill out an RMA form from the Lexy Corporation, then I have to mail that in and wait for confirmation which is supposed to take a MINIMUM of 30 days. After that I get to ship the card, not a problem except that I have to pay for postage both ways, there and back AND if I would simply like to get a refund I lose 15% of it for their "restocking fee". So overall for my return I have to pay at least $50 to get it replaced and have to wait about two months or I can try for a refund and wait a month then get about $315 back and I still have to pay for shipping.

I'm not giving this a bad rating for performance, I'm giving it a bad rating because I got a defective product and HIS wants me to pay more money so that I can get a new one; while giving me a run around so as to make it more difficult to get the replacement.

By far best ATI Card on market right now... Nvidia is faster but hotter and takes $$ more electricity

This review is from: HIS Radeon HD 6970 2GB (256bit) GDDR5 Eyefinity 2x Mini-DisplayPort HDMI 2x DVI (HDCP) PCI Express X16 2.1 Video Card Retail (RoHS) H697F2G2M (Personal Computers)
I wanted a unit to run a bit cooler even if it is maybe a tad slower than Nvidia's solutions. Honestly haven't had much luck with Nvidia drivers in my other computers lately - something always seems to break when they release them and you never know when they will release a new set of drivers. ATI releases one religiously monthly with the exception of December (Christmas time) as they release at the later part of the month.

You must install the drivers from the disk and NOT install the latest 10.12 drivers from ATI site to get this to work right off the bat. You can upgrade after that, but the initial 10.12 drivers are not geared for this unit (too new). I heard that the 10.12a hotfix drivers work right off - but I just install the ones from the disk first. If you didn't do that, then uninstall all the drivers, download "driver sweeper" at [...] log into safe mode - run driver sweeper, delete ati portion of drivers. reboot back into normal mode and this time use the disk that came with the system. You can update the drivers later to the one's on the ATI site. Im sure by the end of this month the 10.13 drivers will just work off the ATI site.

Card runs quiet - cool, and doesn't require you to put in a 1000W power supply like some of the Nvidia cards (depending on what else you have within your system.

The really nice part of this card is the crossfire... it has increased its efficiency to over 90% increase with two cards. I actually think its about 95% but didnt measure.

I prefer HIS to Sapphire - just because Sapphire seems to be doing strange things like asking people to take photos of their receipts to register their cards etc. Very odd. I also think HIS run's quieter.

I would have gone for XFX for warranty (it has lifetime) but I think HIS should hold up. I don't know why the other companies don't match XFX warranty or double lifetime (if you sell your card) warranties. Silly of them not to - they are all using pretty much the components that ATI/AMD specs. I could see if this card was made in China (suspect electronics) - Wish it was made in USA. but was made in Hong Kong (typically better quality than China - but not as good as Japan when it comes to semiconductors - of course I didn't tear apart the card to look at the actual semiconductors to see where they were sourced from.. I have a feeling most of these early models are almost identical to ATI's core spec, which personally I like.

Very fast - handles anything and everything I have thrown at it. Im liking the new Catalyst control AMD/ATI is putting out. Considering the blazing heat and electricity other cards use - I am quite satisfied with this unit, and if I want to blow the others away, Ill just crossfire.

Great product - get it while its available.

One con - but this is about ALL Radeon cards lately by any manufacturer - when going from Satellite or Cable Box directly to computer output on an HDTV - there is static. I either have to go from Sat - to Roku box (or other video input to hdtv) then to PC - or shut down and turn on the HDTV. It is something to do with ATI's HDMI Audio driver. They don't seem to want to fix it - or perhaps it can't be done and its an issue of the Samsung TV Im using ... not sure which. no biggie. I have it set so I have to scroll down through Roku anyway to get to the PC.

Chinese owned Company
HIS is a solid company and I do like the card, but if you're looking to stop buying Chinese products like myself.. consider the info passed on.

Overheats easily on 2 yo games!
I can't believe this card got so hot to the touch and froze the computer after only 20 minutes on a 2 yo video game. My first and *last* HIS product.

Very nice, when it works
Running a 3 monitor setup. Had to buy a dvi to mini dvi dongle to get my 3rd monitor to work. I think that cost $25 for a certified one, but well worth it.

HIS Lives up to it's name!
The HIS Radeon 6970 is no disappointment after a month of use. So far, I have used XFX and Diamond ATI cards.

Very impressed with my return to AMD
I'm a power user, I have a 980x overclocked to 4.4GHZ, a 3-drive raid of Intel's SSD drives, 12GB of ram and I had 2 Nvidia GTX 295's in my system.
