Review: Poetic case
This review is from: Poetic(TM) 2in1 Diamond Pattern Elegant Leather Folio for ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 (Electronics)
I have been looking for a case for awhile now for my Asus TF. I am very picky,so it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted. When I found this I figured why the heck not get this because:
1. The price is great, when you compare it to other cases this is one of the cheapest I have found that looked like good quality.
2. It fits both the Tablet and the Docking station.
3. Can be used with out the docking station and not look overly bulky to me.

Here is what I found out when I got the case
* It can be propped up with out the docking station. It has two strips of velcro on either inside the flap where the docking station can go. On the bottom of the other side where the tablet fits is some more velcro that alwos you to set prop it up at deferent angles.
*I thought at first the two bottom straps that hold the docking station in where a bit loose. Then when looking at it closer I see that it gives the allowance for it to move( opening closing and deferent angled positions.)
* The camera hole, I have not found any problem whatsoever with mine. I am not sure if some of the you have gotten one that was a bit smaller or that Poetic made it bigger this I am not sure of. All in all as I have stated mine is great no matter what angle I am at the back camera is not obstructed.
* When used with just the tablet you can use the two straps that hold the docking station to hold the case closed nicely.
* The style was very appealing, somewhat give you that Chanel look with the front pattern. The leather and suede are fantastic looking. The zipper give it a tighter fit, looks great as well.
* I find only one flaw with this product, then end that you side the TF into doesn't have a magnet to hold the one side in tightly. (Not that one is suppose to be tossing it around.) As long as your careful with it, I don't see it being much of a problem.

Nice but bulky
This review is from: Poetic(TM) 2in1 Diamond Pattern Elegant Leather Folio for ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 (Electronics)
The style and quality of the case are great. Nicely fit to allow easy access to all perils. However it makes the slim pad/tablet bulky.

Very pleased so far!

This review is from: Poetic(TM) 2in1 Diamond Pattern Elegant Leather Folio for ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 (Electronics)
I have had this for 2 days now, and I must say that I like it. I posted a photo review on the transformer forum:[...]. (Sorry, looks like Amazon redacts the URL; you will have to find it in the forum! I have now added the same images to the product page here at Amazon, so you can see it) Here are the pros and cons as I see it:

Pros:
1. Fits well both with and without the keyboard.
2. Looks elegant in a business context - like a leather-bound calendar/planner thing that people used to carry around. It is definitely gender neutral in appearance :-)
3. They don't show it in their picture, but when you use it without the keyboard, you can use the elastic tabs that normally hold the keyboard down as a secure closure. That way, when you drop it, it doesn't flap open and expose the glass. (Note that such a closure is NOT required when used with the keyboard, because the keyboard automatically makes it snap shut and won't just flap open.)
4. Enough room in the spine to clip my Griffin stylus to keep it handy.
5. Velcro based adjustment of viewing angle is nice and secure at any angle.
6. Can lay down to an angle that makes it comfortable to use with the on-screen keyboard (I use the Swype keyboard).
7. Nice that it has a hole for the camera (but, see below).
8. Materials and stitching look substantial and well constructed; will have to see how it holds up after a few months of use.

Cons:
1. A bit on the bulkier side, but that is to be expected if it is substantial (i.e., not cheapy and flimsy) enough to hold up to the weight of the transformer with the keyboard. The weight is 14.4 oz. For comparison, the Transformer and Keyboard dock are each about 25 oz.
2. The hole for the camera is not big enough. The Asus has a really nice wide angle camera, and the hole is such that no matter how I place the tablet in the case there is some vignetting (i.e., there is a part of a dark circle at the edges of the field of view). Not too bad, or unusable for normal purposes for sure (I usually use the back camera for taking pictures of whiteboards to include in my notes, and it works fine for that purpose). So, I am not taking off any stars for this, but do note it for people who may be more particular.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with the purchase.

I love this Eee Pad Transformer case!!! It was great to find such a classy look and still have a quality product to protect my tablet.

Very nice design!
Very sleek, smooth, fits well. The camera is a tad blocked, but not too bad. The only problem I see is when you open it fully, the top part is heavy so it pulls back.

Simple to use and really fast.
The Asus external DVD burner just arrived today. It was very nice looking and lightweight. Goes well with my black Asus EEE PC 900HA. Simple plug and play installation. However, I did not install the Cyberlink Power2go 6 software that was included in the package. The Y cable is about 20-21 inches long which is good enough for me since it is neither too short or too long. Underneath the dvd burner, there is rubbery panel that is removable and it is where you hook up the stand.

Anyway, I wanted to test how fast the drive can burn. So I plugged it into my old Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop and I used Nero 7 Ultra Edition software to burn 4.16 gigs of stuff in under 21 minutes (with verify disc option turned on). It is really fast and consistent (speed top out at 7.8X on a number of occasions). My Phillips burner in my Dell never came close to that speed (at most 6X). The noise isn't that noticeable either (or made just as much noise as the Phillips burner).

Overall, I'm quite pleased and surprised by the performance and looks of the Asus external DVD burner.

Additional notes: I used 2 USB ports (one on the laptop and one on Antec notebook cooler which was also connected to laptop) during the burning process and it didn't seem to have affected the performance.

Also, I ran some discs using only 1 USB port and they played fine.

Like the EEE PC, the drive can be a dust and finger-print magnet.

ASUS DVDRW + eee PC = travel DVD-player
Purchased this to go with my eee PC 10005HAP, partly in case I needed to load software from CD or DVD, but mostly so I could use the eee PC as a travel DVD-player.

It works for both purposes. In the case of playing DVD videos, I was a little surprised that it didn't come with software for that purpose (and Windows Media Player didn't have the right codec) but it was simple to find free software online--I chose VLC Media Player, and that works fine. Most importantly, using the eee PC on battery power supplied enough power to the DVD drive that I could use it for watching DVDs without plugging the computer in.

However, in the case of one bit of software I loaded from CD, I found I did have to plug in the computer to get the installation to run without error. Since I don't expect to do much of this and expect to have a power outlet handy when I do, this isn't a problem.

I haven't yet used the drive for burning CDs or DVDs, so can't comment regarding that, but given the above I won't be relying on battery power to do so.

As others have said, it doesn't seem too stable when mounted in the provided stand. I have no particular need to have it stand up vertically, so it's not a problem for me, but does make me wonder why ASUS even bothered with that stand.

Also, I find the button for opening the drive to be a little difficult to use. The drive itself is so light that pushing the button results in pushing the whole drive, so it can be tricky--I often find I need to hold on to the drive with one hand, while pushing the button with the other. Kind of annoying, but not a showstopper.

Outstanding drive, great for travelers

This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U (White) (Personal Computers)
I had never owned an Asus branded optical drive before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this has turned out to be the best travel drive I've owned so far. I think the pictures are a bit deceptive, because in reality this drive is MUCH thinner than the product images would lead you to believe, and also much sleeker and very attractive. The stand that comes with it is, of course, optional and I don't personally use it. In order to attach the stand, there is a rubber piece on the bottom of the drive which must be removed to reveal a slot, and then the stand snaps securely into that slot, holding the drive up on it's side in a very stable position. If you opt not to use it, as I have done, the rubber piece stays in and sits flush against the bottom. Using it lying flat isn't a problem, because there are four rubber feet on the bottom that prevent it from sliding around and the rubber slot cover acts as a fifth foot helping to make it that much more stable. There are a couple of huge pluses that need to be mentioned about this drive. I previously owned a similar travel drive from another well known manufacturer, and while it was reasonably small, it also required an external power source of it's own meaning you had an extra cable to carry with you. That is not the case with this drive. It is powered entirely via the USB connector and has so far been extremely reliable. The drive I owned previously was a little picky about defects in CDs and other optical discs, and I don't know if it is the firmware in the Asus drive or the reading mechanism itself, but the error correction in reading discs is far better than it was with my old drive and therefore much more forgiving when I'm ripping some of my older CDs that have seen better days to my hard drive (I primarily use it with Sound Juicer in Ubuntu Linux). I have burned close to 100 ISO images to CDR discs with this drive using Brasero and only had one coaster, and that was probably my fault as I had put a label on the disc that was off center and also had a crease in it before I tried to burn it, so it's kind of hard to blame the drive for that as the disc itself was most probably off balance. I've also had to use it as a boot drive a couple of times and it was always recognized by the BIOS on my Eee PC 1000HA on startup. Read and write speeds are also very similar to my old drive as well.

So if you're looking for a compact, reliable and attractive travel drive in this price range, you can pretty much stop looking right now. This drive has just about everything you could ask for from a portability standpoint. I have no complaints whatsoever about this drive or it's performance. It's taken nearly everything I've fed it so far without issue, and I have no qualms whatsoever about giving it five stars. Surprisingly great product.

Excellent value and performance
This review is from: Acer AS1430Z-4677 11.6-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black) (Personal Computers)
Just a quick few comments. I bought a 1430Z (from another vendor, where it was cheaper at the time) mainly because:

o It has more screen pixels than 10.1" netbooks do
o CPU benchmarks I found on the web were much better than for typical Atom processors
o It's considerably lighter and smaller than 13.3" notebooks
o It comes with more memory than typical netbooks do

My intention (as with all my computers) was to run Ubuntu Linux, dual booting occasionally into Windows.

My impressions so far:

Pros:

o Nice compact form factor. It's even a tad lighter than the spec; mine weighs just under 3 lbs
o Ubuntu 10.10 works. But I had to blacklist 2 modules (intel_ips and acer-wmi).
o External VGA gives you a full extended desktop (at least in Ubuntu, haven't experimented in Windows): I get 1366x768 on the notebook and 1680x1050 on a 22" external monitor at the same time. This has not worked well or at all on other notebooks I've had in the past.
o Applications respond snappily -- this is subjective of course. Video is good. I also run my own CPU-intensive simulation benchmark on all my computers to compare them. The 1430Z (Intel U5600 CPU) is about 26% slower than a desktop with an AMD 5000+ CPU, 18% faster than a notebook with an Intel SU7300 CPU, and 11% faster than a notebook with an Intel Pentium M 1.73GHz CPU.

Cons:

o Battery life is OK but unexceptional -- this is only subjective since I haven't measured it. But battery life has never been a high priority for me. For all my laptops it has dropped precipitously after a year or so, no matter how impressive it may have been when new.
o The Keyboard lacks the feel of a great keyboard, like the classic Thinkpads of yore, or a decent desktop keyboard. And the Home/End/PgUp/PgDown/Up/Down/Left/Right are squashed together in the lower right; I don't know if I'll ever learn to find them without looking.

Overall then, this fits the bill for me: portability, performance, and Linux.

Litle fast Notebook - NOT netbook
This review is from: Acer AS1430Z-4677 11.6-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black) (Personal Computers)
I got this Notebook for my wife, and I checked some specification before purchase :
-CPU architecture SandyBridge 32nm, Intel relased it in Jan 2011, very low power consumption -18W.
-3GB latest DDR 3 memory, upgradable to 8GB - more then enough
-wireless 802.11 b/g and latest n
-Windows 7 64bits
-very good HD screen resolution
It is more powerfull then most devices in this size, has around double power then Atom CPU, and pretty fast wireless internet,
with my D-link Extreme 655 router in the basement I got 15Mbps net speed on first floor , (19Mbps when connected with Cat 6 wire).
When I run it first time the speed when not connected to the power cord was slower - some power saving settings, after adjusting it in the Laptop and in the router, I got full speed.
No problem watch YouTube HD (I have very fast Comcast Internet), and streaming my movies over network.
Then we are very happy with it , my wife love it how it looks like and because it is very light.

Very Good Value for Mini Notebook Performance

This review is from: Acer AS1430Z-4677 11.6-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black) (Personal Computers)
I needed to replace my 6.5 lb laptop for travelling. I didn't like the performance and cramped keyboard of the netbooks. I needed it for photo storage and processing plus email.

I'm glad ACER just released the AS1430.

The screen and keyboard are much more useable than the 10.1 netbooks. The screen and 1.3MP HD Webcam (1280 x 1024) are higher resolution than the netbooks.

It really isn't much more cost than a netbook when you compare them. Most netbooks only have Windows Starter. To upgrade it to Home Premium 64 bit would be $80. Most netbooks come with only 1GB and is only upgradeable to 1 or 2GB. The ACER comes with 3GB upgradeable to 8GB. Most netbooks come with 250 or smalller GB. The ACER has a 320 GB.

Despite the specs from ACER, the ram is upgradeable to 8GB. I got the Crucial CT2KIT51264BC1067 8GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 (4GBx2) for $84.99 from Amazon. It took 15 minutes to replace the RAM. The bottom cover is held by six screws and a bunch of friction clips. You should be gentle in taking it off, because it looks flimsy. The additional memory makes it boot up faster and quicker when multiple windows are open.

The only negative is battery life is only 4.5 hrs vs 8-9 for the netbooks, but it is enough to play a couple of movies on the airplane.

I really like this computer.

Light, speedy netbook

This review is from: Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black) (Personal Computers)
Picked this model up locally on sale (D255-2331). It's a nice, light, fast little laptop. I was concerned the 3-cell battery wouldn't last long enough for daily use, but if the backlight is turned down you can get 5 or so hours out of it. Initially when I first charged the battery it wouldn't get past 96%. I let it run for a day and discharged to about 10%, then let it charge overnight and now it's saying 100% charge.
Acer puts minimal bloatware on this machine, which is nice. It even comes with some actually useful apps pre-installed (Skype, McAfee, MS Works). There were a TON of Windows updates that were needed though once I got it on the net. The BIOS was also outdated. The network driver caused one bluescreen once, which is what prompted the BIOS udpate. The driver on their site claimed I already had the latest version though.
Speed-wise I've had very few issues and I've been impressed with how fast this netbook actually is (even with only 1GB of RAM). Web pages load quickly and applications are fast. I installed MS Office 2007 and it loads just as fast as my desktop machine. It's also worth mentioning that YouTube videos play well. I've also played some .wmv videos through Windows Media Player and they play well with minimal CPU usage.
Hard drive is quiet and bottom of the netbook is somewhat warm. There is a small fan and vent on the side. The fan is pretty quiet (can only hear it in a quiet room).
Keyboard is useable, though my hands do notice it is a little smaller than full size. Multi-touch mouse pad works well. The mouse buttons are a bit hard to press at first, as well being right at the edge of the laptop, but after some getting used to it is now acceptable.
Speakers are adequate. Not real loud, but good enough for normal use.
The wireless card picks up my home and work networks and connects to them quickly. For example I can get a 144Mbps link to my Cisco router about 25 feet away through 2 walls. There is no WLAN on/off switch, but you can control it via Windows or the driver software. By default the radio is set to be always on at max power, but you can always get a little more battery life by turning this down as well.
One thing I don't quite get yet is when the system goes to sleep when the lid is closed it doesn't always wakeup automatically when the lid is reopened. Sometimes it does it on its own, sometimes I need to press the power button. Not a big deal though.
Overall I'd recommend this laptop to anyone wanting a small light daily-use laptop for simple common tasks.

very happy
This review is from: Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought this for my daughter for christmas, and had it for a week or two now. It is amazing, love that it has Windows XP on it, don't need that fancy shmancy operating software, it's just operating software. I have XP on my home computer and for my 13 year old daughter, I dont think she really cares or knows the difference, she is just really happy she has a netbook. Took a little time to get used to the pad instead of the mouse, but you get over it, or you can attach a mouse using USB. This seems like the only netbook model from Acer where you can upgrade memory up to 2GB(around 30 bucks), so at least there is options to expand. WiFi picked up my wireless router no problem and webcam worked great too. Nice and light little machine. I was worried with the speed of WiFi, but it was just as fast if I had ethernet cable attached. Can't think of anything else, I will update this review in a couple weeks to add more if I forgot. Very pleased with it, though the only bad news is that everyone else wants one now too.

The Netbook is for Professional Users Only
This review is from: Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black) (Personal Computers)
I have been purchasing a "Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black)" from VA seller though Amazon... the item was deliver in less then 48 hours, brand new, fully sealed with all the factory components. The Acer Netbook D255 are Small, Light, Thin, Quiet, Advance, Fast - thanks to The Best Operating System Ever - Windows XP! Battery hold up to 6 hours. All components can be easy changed: RAM up to 2G, Hard drive up to 500G... My recommendations is to Delete factory installed the additional software, which are make the PC operating slowly. The Point of this Netbook is the Windows XP interface, because all other models and makers use the Slow and Broken systems such as Windows 7 starter...
P.S The Acer Aspire ONE D255 is The One of The Best Netbooks You Can Buy, it is a Good Value for The Price.

Nice styling, but does require two USB slots.
This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D2S-U (White) (Personal Computers)
This is an attractive unit that can be placed horizontally or vertically. It works well, but does require two USB slots. I have an older, less attractive HP unit that works fine on one USB and has a light when it requires the extra one plugged in. THe light has never come on, but I think it is primarily for use with the lightscribe feature which I have never used. I bought this as a more attractive replacement, and was surprised to discover that the extra USB was required.

This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D2S-U (White) (Personal Computers)
I bought this Asus external DVD writer to use with Acer Aspire Revo computer. It looks beautiful, worked as expeted, and exceeded my overall expectation.

This drive does NOT require power supply. However, the USB cable has two male ends for connecting to the computer. Instructions suggest that we connect both of them to the computer so there is enough power for the device. I have tested by connecting just one of them to read a CD and it worked fine. (I haven't attempted to write using one connection.)

I am not using the stand - it is not needed.

Very satisfied with the size, appearance, quality, functionality, and convenience of this product. Highly recommened.

Yes, this IS Mac compatible
This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 6xBlu-Ray Combo External Optical Drive SBC-06D1S-U (Black) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this hoping it would be a good add-on to my Mac mini... not to PLAY Blu-ray discs, but to RIP them to MKV files (using MakeMKV). Fortunately, it works great!

Not only is the setup crazy stupid easy (one Y-cable... two USB into the mini, one mini-USB into the drive), but there's no software to begin using it; the drive is recognized instantly and you can begin reading discs.

Again, this is NOT for watching movies directly from the Blu-ray disc on your Mac -- Blu-ray is still a "bag of hurt" according Jobs, so until Apple builds that into the OS, it'll be a short ride.

But if you want to rip the Blu-Ray to your Mac (and use MakeMKV or AirVideo to watch/convert), it works fabulously.

Excellent Design
This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 6xBlu-Ray Combo External Optical Drive SBC-06D1S-U (Black) (Personal Computers)
3 important aspects of this device:
1) Doesn't require an external power source! Comes with Y-shape USB adapter that takes up two USB ports (which must be reasonably close together) for both power and data.
2) Comes with a copy of CyberLink Power DVD 9. Software is "meh" but at $100 value (Ultra edition required for Blu-Ray playback) bundled with drive makes it much more appealing.
3) Styling exceeds other external drives. Comes with stand for optional vertical mounting as shown in picture. External blue light brightness can be controlled via software.

Overall well worth the price.

Side note: Amazon shipping was amazing. Product arrived at my house 1 day before it was originally scheduled to ship. I probably just got lucky, but still worth mentioning.

It can even burn blu rays to hard disk
This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 6xBlu-Ray Combo External Optical Drive SBC-06D1S-U (Black) (Personal Computers)
This Asus blu ray player was perhaps one of my more expensive buys but well worth it. The only problem is that the powerdvd 9 that comes with it is a piece of crap bloatware. I really recommend using DAplayer. It's a free blu ray playing software that is constantly being updates and works wonderfully. It looks nice and works nice. ( on windows 7 at least. I haven't heard anything about it on macs and no idea how it works under wine in ubuntu Linux.)

This review is from: ASUS External Blu-Ray Drive Reads 6X BD-ROM/R/RE and Writes 8X DVD+R/24XCD-R Formats SBC-06D1S-U (Diamond Blue) (Personal Computers)
The drive itself works fine. It needs 2 USB ports for power which is normal (unless you prefer carrying around an extra power brick). It's cheaper than the black model because it's missing the Blu-Ray playback software and the lack of the useless glowing blue light. Amazon's description for this product is pretty poor. "True Theater High Definition" obviously doesn't apply here and they just copied and pasted text over from the black model.

For reference this is the original black model.

Simple to use and really fast.
This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 8xDVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U (Black) (Personal Computers)

This review is from: ASUS USB 2.0 8xDVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U (Black) (Personal Computers)
